2021 Travel Team Member Feature: Angela DeVanney

We are excited to continue our new blog series! In this series, we highlight members of our incredible 2021 Travel Team who will accompany us during Mission 2021 to Antigua, Guatemala.

Travel Team Members generously volunteer their time, talent, and energy toward our goal: providing the gift of mobility to patients in need. From October 2nd through October 9th 2021, we will be in Antigua to accomplish that goal.

This year’s trip to Antigua will be our sixth to Guatemala, and our eleventh trip overall. We thoroughly enjoy the time we spend at Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro, our partner hospital in Antigua, which we affectionately call our home away from home. We love the staff there and truly think of them all as family.

Let’s turn our attention to our next featured Travel Team Member, Angela DeVanney! Angela is not only a Travel Team Member for Operation Walk Pittsburgh, she also works as a member of the AMD3 Neighborhood. She is the founder of goShadow, which focuses on delivering training and tools that improve patient experiences and staff well-being in the healthcare industry. She has brought her experiences from years as a project manager with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement to our neighborhood. She was also involved in the founding of Operation Walk Pittsburgh, and has traveled on every mission trip since our beginning in 2008.

Angela is originally from Pittsburgh, where she loves the summer season and the events that come along with it. Schenley Park is her favorite place in the city to spend free time. Angela earned her bachelor's degree in Spanish and Political Science from Wellesley College in Massachusetts before coming back home to Pittsburgh to do the best work of her life with goShadow. She has built goShadow into an internationally recognized organization that improves the wellbeing of patients and healthcare professionals on a daily basis.

Angela is a mother of two daughters, ages six and one. They love to travel as a family, and her older daughter has had the opportunity to travel on previous Operation Walk Pittsburgh Missions to Guatemala and Cuba. Angela has done quite a bit of traveling herself, but she enjoys Italy and Guatemala the most. Food is a great highlight of both of those destinations!

All of our Travel Team Members work hard to meet a fundraising goal, helping to cover a portion of the total cost of critically needed supplies and equipment for Mission 2021. We are deeply thankful for each and every one of our Travel Team Members’ support, including Angela’s!

Please consider making a donation in Angela’s name to support her fundraising commitment. Remember, 100% of all donations made to Operation Walk Pittsburgh directly support patient care during the mission. Will you help Angela reach her fundraising goal?
